Microsoft Windows tip: If you want to get to the Windows Explorer quickly, use this keyboard shortcut.  Press the Start Menu button and hold it down while pressing the letter E. 

To Lock your computer fast, press the Start Menu button and hold it down while pressing the letter L.

Note:  If you have an older keyboard, it may not contain this button.  Usually found around the Ctrl and Alt keys.

 

Microsoft Access tip: Some helpful keyboard shortcuts:
[Ctrl]+;
(semicolon)
When entering data, this shortcut will automatically enter the current date.  (Works in Excel too!)
[Ctrl]+'
(apostrophe)
When entering data, this shortcut will copy the value of this field from the previous record.  (Works in Excel too!)
[Ctrl]+[F2] Expression Builder.  Can be used to help you construct expressions.
[Shift]+[F2]  Zoom.  Can be used to open a window to display the property or expression your cursor is sitting at.
[F2] Cursor.  Can be used to change the cursor to select mode to edit mode.
[Ctrl]+[F9] Refresh.  Can be used to refresh the screen. i.e. to refresh datasheet view or run query again.
[F9] Refresh.  Can be used to refresh a control on a form.
[Shift]+[Arrow keys] Resize.  Can be used in a report or form design to resize a control.
[Ctrl]+[Arrow keys] Move.  Can be used in a report or form design to move a control.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint tip: When running your slide show, you need to draw your audience's attention off the slide show and towards you for a moment.  You can do this by going to a black screen.

While running your slide show, press B or . (period) to show a black screen.  When you want to return to the slide show press B or . again.  Or if you prefer a white screen use W or , (comma).

 

Microsoft Word tip: Need to find out about the formatting of a paragraph in Word?  You can do this by using the Help cursor.  

First, press [Shift]+[F1].  This will generate the help cursor.  Then use your mouse to click on the paragraph in question.  A tool tip will pop up with useful formatting information about the clicked on paragraph.

 

Microsoft Office tip: Would you like to display the default "Short Date" format as 01/01/2000 instead of 01/01/00?  You can do this by adjusting the short date style in the Regional Settings of the Control Panel.

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.  Double click Regional Settings.  Click on the Date tab.  Change the short date style to M/d/yyyy or select it off the combo box.  Now whenever you use the "Short Date" format in any application it will appear with a 4 digit year.
